It
was such a treat to have lunch with Dad when I returned to Denver for a visit. He's
pointing something out to me near his office on the grounds of the Veterans Administration
Hospital in this favorite photo. |

Traveling
in Europe with Mom and Dad |
|
|
In Cophenhagen, we shopped. See Dad (above) holding the bag in the main shopping street after a wonderful spree when Mom and I each bought a single piece of special jewelry. Mom and Dad posed (top right) on a walk through Amsterdam, and top left, in a drizzle, after touring the thatched house of Ann Hathaway, who was close with Shakespeare. Dad was such an adventurer.

We parted in
Paris, but not before Mom and Dad checked out where I would be spending the two steamiest months of the coming summer, a charming skylit garret that could have been a stage set from Puccini's 'La Boheme.' At the time I was up for adventure, delighted that when visiting the fashion magazine, Elle, its imposing managing editor offered me a summer stint as an assistant, a position they call 'stagiare.' The pay was a pittance, covering 'Le Metro,' coffee, and not much else. But at the time, I had nary a qualm about 14 months in Europe instead of Columbia Business School. As my Dad would have put it, "not by a long shot." |
