Above, three Uberstine brothers held a
rendezvous in a sister's Brooklyn backyard sometime in the late 1930s. From left to
right: Isar Rubenstein, of Newark, New Jersey; Harris Uberstine of Cleveland, Ohio; Mayer
Uberstine of the Bronx, and in the hat at far right, Ida Uberstine Farberman's husband,
Harris. Below, the brothers are joined by Florence, far right, one
of the nine |
daughters of Harris Uberstine (far left in this photo).
Mayer, now second from left, is joined by his second wife, Gitel. A $1 raffle ticket
that won Harris an automobile caused him to embark, with a daughter at either side, on a
celebratory sojourn to see his East Coast siblings. For a photo of his visit to the
Bronx to see his oldest sister, Toby, view the Ohio section on our history page. |
