Two days before my first
birthday, both grandmothers made the trip to help me celebrate in our new home in
Flushing, Queens. At right: Grandma Fanny Poliaczek Deich Gold, holding my right hand,
came in from Brooklyn. Grandma Esther Simon Rubenstein Seiser traveled from the
Bronx.
